IMUS ADDENDUM - The "State of the State"

Some more thoughts on my last post re: the Don Imus affair here in the States...

We in America are so caught up with being "politically correct," as if this was the most important aspect of our existence and the most important "achievement" of the American society. While I, of course, support social justice issues (correctly identified, interpreted, and addressed - not as the modern left wing has done in their hysterical, totalitarian, witch hunt manner), I do not feel that "issues" such as the Don Imus brouhaha (better interpreted as a free speech issue, perhaps) should warrant such airplay and nationwide concern. Most especially when we have larger issues to concern us.

While the Chinese and the United Arab Emirates are building Chucky Cheeses on Mars, the US is consumed with a financially debilitating do-gooder "police action" in Iraq, a country that worships irrationality and religious insanity. (Yes, I believe our President - GWB - is a serial "do-gooder"; extremely misguided, though perhaps well meaning in his heart.) Pardon my hyperbole (just trying to be funny), but the Chinese and the UAE (among others) are doing incredible things with their infrastructures with money that we, of course, have voluntarily handed over to them every time we go to Wal-Mart and the gas pump. I have been to China and seen their phenomenal growth with my own two eyes...Unbelievable...

America has an outdated, deteriorating infrastructure - imagine if at least some of the Iraq war money were spent at home making our own country physically better and more up to date, say, like South Korea, or Iceland, or any of the Scandinavian countries? How about broadband in every home, and mobile phones that work everywhere, as the Europeans have enjoyed for the last decade?

While the US slaps itself on the back for being such a "tolerant" and "politically correct" society, the total stock market value of all European countries has just surpassed that of the US for the first time since before WWI. Think of it - this means that, quite simply, European companies are valued more highly than American ones (despite our recent mini-bull run past 13,000 on the Dow - hooray - but FINALLY!!).

I've been all over the world - there are plenty of places that enjoy just as good (or better) a standard of living as in the US. Meanwhile, on the home front, people still prattle on about how "rich" we are compared to the rest of the world; pat ourselves on the back for helping "poor folks," etc. Hello?! Have you people travelled lately?

It is imperative that we - whether Democrat, Republican, or Libertarian - find, cultivate, and vote for much, much better leadership - both at the political and corporate levels - than we have had for the past many years. "Where there is lack of vision, the people perish..."

Oh well - the US is still number one in a few things, like: the manufacture of weapons, the export of fast food, and porn...
